This is my 4th non SLR digital camera, i have had it for about 12 months now, and i have to say that it is by far the best camera that I, or anyone I know, has had. The punchline is simple. It is TINY, fits in my pocket like a cell phone (please remember not to have anything else in your pocket because the touchscreen WILL scratch), fast, and i haven’t had to take it off AUTO to get the best pictures. Of course fooling around with black & white, sepia, and vibrant is fun, but 99% of the time, I leave it on auto and the pictures come out GREAT. This camera has a great quality of capturing backround light and creating a great picture by mixing the light sources together. Mind you i’m not a professional photographer, but if you were, you wouldn’t be buying a non SLR camera anyway. The bottom line is that whenever i am at a party, my camera takes the best pictures compared to anyone elses pocket size digital camera, every time, PERIOD. And to the reviewer who complained of a “haze in every picture that would make carl zeiss roll over in his grave”, clean your lens!
I replaced my Sony DSLR with this because I rarely used the BIG DSLR camera. I wanted an ultra portable camera with great features without the hassle of “preparing” the camera for every shot I took. I love this camera for a lot of reasons: touch screen to configure and navigate, zoom lens works great without an actual lens that zooms in and out from the camera body, great build, super portable, and great battery life. There is a setting for almost anything you could think of. I wanted to have a camera that I could just pull it out and it would be able to auto adjust to ANY environment. That said, this camera takes great pictures, mostly outdoor pictures. With everything set to “Auto”, outside pictures are great! Inside pictures, which normally need flash, are the worst I have ever seen from a Sony digital camera. Granted, I could get it to take good inside pictures if I made adjustments in various settings. But I wanted the Intelligent Auto exposure setting to do this for me. It just so happens to do that better when pics are taken outdoors rather than indoors.
Also worth mentioning is video. I have taken a few videos and they turned out great! It records in 720p HD and the resolution and sound is great!
So I gave it 4 stars, but I would have given it 3 1/2 stars. Many shots I take are indoors, probably more than 50%. Most of those pictures are ok when viewed on a PC screen or TV that is set to view the picture to fit the screen. But if you view them in 100% resolution, they are usually very grainy and “distorted” looking.
I think my next point and shoot camera will be a Nikon or Canon.
i love my camera without poor battery and bed software. only think is bed in the camera i record 3 videos each 5 minutes and battery died. i was in voccation 4 hours drive and may be never gonna have the change to see that naturel place again. what ever. i took couple pix and videos. came home. my computer didn’t show the videos. okay i installed the PMB which is suckest software i have ever seen. this PMB came with the camera in same box. i try to upload videos online, loses quality. and no way to fix it. i paid for hd camera but i upload videos in very poor condition like 5 years old cell phone camera record. i try to save records to the my computer same thing happend. very low quality. i also needed to some change and add on video it is inpossible in this PMB. i wanna use my movie maker software, PMB dont accept it. can some body tell me what tha hell is that
As a guy with only four pockets, I can’t stand to carry something bigger than this. This is as small of a decent camera as I could find at the time. Besides that, the quality is fantastic.
My favourite part is that you can turn it on, snap pictures, and have it back in your pocket while most other people are still waiting for their lenses to extend.
Everything else has been said many times, so I’ll leave it at that for now.
This camera does everything on it’s own! I always hated having to try and figure out what kind of setting to put on my previous cameras so that the picture would come out the best… after a while I would just put it on “auto” and hope for the best. This camera detects it’s surroundings and will adjust to whatever environment you are in automatically! It will detech backlight and eliminate it and also detect if it’s a portrait picture, landscape, etc. Plus it looks so slick and small enough to put in a clutch purse or pocket. People ask me how much I paid for this like it must have costed so much money so it even looks expensive! I love this camera!
